Backflow Tester Certification & Re-Certification
The backflow tester certification is a twenty-four hour class and the backflow tester re-certification is an eight-hour class as required by the Ohio Industrial Compliance Division, Ohio Department of Commerce.
Prior to registering for an initial “Backflow Tester” certification class, the student must first submit a backflow tester application to the Ohio Department of Commerce. The State will review your qualifications and send you an approval notification.

The initial student must present the approval letter, the original application (returned by the State of Ohio), and full payment of the class fee on the first day of class.
Backflow Certification forms
The class is divided into traditional classroom instruction from the State of Ohio Backflow Prevention Training Manual and hands-on proficiency training in an on-site testing lab. The test lab offers an opportunity to practice testing, disassembly and repair of various backflow prevention assemblies.
The written test portion of the State requirements are administered at the Ohio Department of Commerce in Reynoldsburg, Ohio on a monthly basis and the hands-on testing portion of the State requirements are administered at the training school by the Instructor.
A re-certification student simply submits a PACON registration form to register for the eight-hour re-certification class. All testing will be completed during the class and the Instructor will submit your application for renewal to the State of Ohio.
The re-certification renewal is due every three years and PACON will send you a reminder letter the year that you are due for renewal.
The PACON classes are offered on a schedule that is completed just days before the State of Ohio written test is administered to reduce the elapsed time between training and written testing.
